War by other means

Over at PJ Media Richard Fernandez (AKA Wretchard the Cat) has penned another golden essay.  It is not my policy to quote other people’s articles in full, but PJ Media’s annoying page refresh sometimes always makes reading their authors painfully frustrating.  Therefore I am quoting the full article as it is timely and important, if we are to understand events in the world, be that world foreign or domestic.  You can read it with ads and frustrating interruptions there if you can stand it.  If PJ Media doesn’t like it they can fix their annoying refresh function.

Col. Austin Bay, who with Jim Dunnigan wrote the classic Quick and Dirty Guide to War, looks at the shape of 21st century conflict in his new book Cocktails From Hell: Five Complex Wars Shaping the 21st Century. Through the prism of five current conflicts, he both explains the actual conflicts and illustrates how the nature of conflict has changed or stayed the same. Bay begins with the most basic question: what is war? Unlikely as it may seem, the answer is not always self-evident. To some, it may appear invisible unless it looks like the familiar Hollywood conventions. Bay’s book begins with the following story, which illustrates the point.

On an evening in February 1990, three months after the Berlin Wall cracked and the Cold War began to melt, I participated in a panel presentation held in a high school auditorium … As I left … a woman intercepted me in the hallway and planted herself directly in front of me … “You write books about war, right? With the end of the Cold War and so many people waging peace, I guess you’ll have to find another subject, eh?” …
I kept my reply civil, sincere, and accurate, “Well, ma’am, it’s quite a hazardous form of peace.”

Of the five conflicts he examines — North Korea’s “frozen” stalemate, Beijing’s expansion in the South China Sea, Russia’s “hybrid” invasion of Ukraine, the proxy and tribal battles in Yemen and the anarchy in the Congo — none resemble the stereotype of conventional war.

The greatest trick modern despots ever pulled was to convince the world that war has ceased to exist by disguising it as other things. In 1999, nine years after Bay’s anecdote and 7 years after Francis Fukuyama’s book The End of History and the Last Man appeared, two Chinese air force colonels wrote a paper to contrive just that. It laid out how China could defeat America without a conventional confrontation. Their book, Unrestricted Warfare, proposed an ancient yet largely forgotten strategy to achieve this: by spreading out offensive activity over so many domains no one component would individually cross a red line. Then people like the woman who buttonholed Austin Bay would think nothing was happening until it was too late. The thesis of Colonels Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui was neatly summarized by War on the Rocks:

In 1999, two Chinese colonels wrote a book called Unrestricted Warfare, about warfare in the age of globalization. Their main argument: Warfare in the modern world will no longer be primarily a struggle defined by military means — or even involve the military at all….
Colonels Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui argued that war was no longer about “using armed forces to compel the enemy to submit to one’s will” in the classic Clausewitzian sense. Rather, they asserted that war had evolved to “using all means, including armed force or non-armed force, military and non-military, and lethal and non-lethal means to compel the enemy to accept one’s interests.” The barrier between soldiers and civilians would fundamentally be erased, because the battle would be everywhere.

The number of new battlefields would be “virtually infinite,” and could include environmental warfare, financial warfare, trade warfare, cultural warfare, and legal warfare, to name just a few. They wrote of assassinating financial speculators to safeguard a nation’s financial security, setting up slush funds to influence opponents’ legislatures and governments, and buying controlling shares of stocks to convert an adversary’s major television and newspapers outlets into tools of media warfare. According to the editor’s note, Qiao argued in a subsequent interview that “the first rule of unrestricted warfare is that there are no rules, with nothing forbidden.” That vision clearly transcends any traditional notions of war.

It is the hidden ingredients of the Cocktails from Hell that give them surprising destructive power. With attacks spread over a spectrum of domains, modern war is surprisingly hard to distinguish from other forms of conflict. People brought up on the notion of World War II as “total war” would be astonished to learn how much more ‘total’, yet how much more invisible, war has become. The great strength of Austin Bay’s book is how it illustrates, through the example of actual ongoing conflicts, how cross-domain and cocktail warfare in today’s world actually works.

It works well. Disturbingly well. Just how successful Colonels Quiao and Wang’s stratagems have proved is demonstrated by the fact that — despite breathless media accounts of the Mueller investigation — most of the public has never heard of these new attack domains. One explanation for their invisibility is that their instigators have deliberately contrived to stay out of the Narrative. Cocktails from Hell continues:

The colonels’ sketches of psychological and media warfare overlap with a buzz term that American national security agencies and commentators have begun using: narrative warfare. … Cagey warfighters will dynamically link weaponized narratives to other kinetic and non-kinetic operations in an ongoing conflict and create a powerful operational cocktail. For example, narrative warfare linked to a false flag operation may shape or alter an election. Criminal speculators could use the same combination to destroy an honest company’s reputation, sell the company’s stock short, then spread the “big lie” to drive the stock price down. The weaponized narrative’s combination of speed and pervasiveness can create psychological vulnerabilities in an adversary’s population. In a long war or extended diplomatic confrontation, fear and doubt seeded by an adversary’s weaponized narratives may erode its opponent’s will to continue to struggle.

“Well, ma’am, it’s quite a hazardous form of peace,” as Col. Bay said. Today, as we nostalgically look back on the seemingly secure old global world, it’s worthwhile wondering if perhaps that was the attack vector.

What the Chinese are doing is really nothing new, the dreaded Russians were doing it 100 years ago.  Any and every means were deployed to tear down non-Soviet states and weld them into the Evil Empire of which Ronald Reagan spoke and subsequently destroyed.  We see the same thing in the Soviets’ spiritual descendants, the Progressives and the Democratic Party.  In their mad pursuit of power they corrupt everything they touch and make it anti-human in order to control it.

Except, of course, after a while it gets hard for real humans to swallow, they you get the yellow vests in France and elsewhere.  The yellow vest movement, it should be noted, is NOT under control and is spreading.  Who knows, someday we may even get some yellow vest dust ups here.

Yet even that isn’t enough.  As John C. Wright observes, “So, no matter what tactics can and must be used to fight this darkness in high places, the first step in the crusade is to kneel. Only by dedication to Christ have we the power to trample these scorpions and serpents unhurt.”

A prosperous and happy new year to all.

Humpty Trumpty promised a wall

Humpty Trumpty promised a wall.

Unless he delivers Trumpty will fall.

All the GOP’s promises and all the Right’s men

Won’t put Trumpty together again.

While granting that there are far too many Donks in the Senate and RYANOS in the House, that’s about the long and the short of it.  Unless Trump can get the wall funded and the building of it started he, and his agenda going forward, is toast.  So is the Republic, which is pretty well burned already anyway.  The Donks are doubly incentivised to refuse to fund the wall, first to keep the borders open to continue the process of electorate replacement, and second to torpedo Trump’s, and by extension Patriotic Republicans’ chances of victory in 2020.

Now granted Trump has delivered massively on some of his promises, notably trade agreements, deregulation and, the big one so far, sane, Constitutional originalist judges.  (I, for one, am looking forward to the fireworks when Ruthie, who’s got one foot and four and nine tenths toes in the grave, kicks the bucket.)  But he has notably failed on others: medical monopolies reform (who remembers that?), drain the swamp and build the big, beautiful wall.  These promises he must, MUST, *MUST* keep else all is lost.

Yes, Obamacare has foundered and sunk, no thanks to the GOP, finally being sent to the bottom by a Texas judge with a spine.  Of course the Commiecrats will challenge that in court, because it ain’t really settled law until they get their way, but for now its dead and good riddance.  But medicare is an open artery that unless promptly staunched will bleed the country white in very short order.  Along with that the price fixing between hospitals and insurance companies must be stopped.  Here’s an experiment for you: when next you have cause to enter a hospital ask for a breakdown of costs BEFORE you sign on the dotted line, as is required by law.  Of course you won’t, because by then you’re between the devil and the deep blue sea and they’ll just let you choose another caregiver. Good luck with that.  Nor will they give you a breakdown of actual costs incurred when presenting you with the bill.

There have been over 50,000 secret indictments filed all over the country in the last two years (before this the annual average was about 1,000/year).  That there is a secret cabal  plotting the overthrow of our Constitution can no longer be doubted.  Unless they are exposed and brought to swift and public justice they will remain in place to continue their dastardly work of undermining our freedom, our Constitution and our republican form of government.  This is concerning not just on its face, but because historically when republics fall they are replaced by dictatorships.  If the Trump Administration doesn’t act on this soon his credibility will be eviscerated and his agenda will be undone.

Just because the vaunted ‘Caravan’ has seemingly fizzled doesn’t mean that we’ve won the battle of the border.  ‘Seemingly’ because as of a couple of weeks ago the leaders of the Leftist organized “spontaneous march” showed up at the American Consulate in Tijuana and demanded that they be either admitted to the US or be given $50,000 each to go home.  To the best of my knowledge they are still holding their breath on that one.  Now that the GOP has, at the 59th minute of the 11th hour, budgeted a measly 5 billion for wall construction the Demoncrats are losing their minds.

Trump put one over on Nancy ‘Nutjob’ Pelosi and Chuck ‘the Schmuck’ Schumer by leaving the press in the room when they met with the President and the Vice President in the Oval Office.  That was nice, but nicer is the government shut down showdown.  I notice that in contrast to Barrack ‘the Hack’ Obama’s government shutdown, recall how he used government employees to try and prevent public access to Federal property, Trump has gone out of his way to insure that the public can still access Federal facilities.

So far so good, for certain values of ‘good’, but he needs to win this. He’s gotten off to a good start, as seen in the video below.  Trump ambushed them by making the discussion public, notice how Pelosi objects and Trump responds.  Notice how Schumer tries to control the discussion, but Trump rolls right over him.  To win he must hold firm on that crappy 5 billion and humiliate the Democrats.  That will be Christmas gift worth having.

Chuck ‘the Schmuck’ smirking for the cameras while turning his back on the President.

An innovative voter-centered approach to voting for Los Angeles County

The Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) was developed by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) in 2009 to address an aging voting system and an increasingly large and complex electorate. The project seeks a collaborative approach to voting system design that will put voters at the center and maximize stakeholder participation.Through field research and coalition building, the RR/CC has pioneered a voter-centered approach to voting system design and development.

There is a short video at the bottom of the page which I cannot copy here but which is important to view.  Go there and watch it.

Pardon my cynicism, but can anything coming out of any Democrat controlled institution be good for the country?

Huh.  I thought not.  We better be in on it or we lose out again.

The problem with electronic voter systems is that they are unaccountable.  The whole shooting works can be run from one central location and the results changed to suit the system administrators with the click of a mouse.  Click!  Candidate A receives the majority of votes and Candidate B the lesser amount, regardless of the actual tallies.  If the Administrator likes the result he keeps it, if not he flips it.

The proposal has several advantages for a one party state.  New voting machines and their subsystems are an excellent opportunity for graft.  This will cost millions and the taxpayers will fund it.  But it will eliminate the effort and expense of stockpiling pre-packed voting boxes in random closets and car trunks, and it won’t be necessary to pay operatives to go vote harvesting.

The meeting to be held in the Republican’s back yard is going to take place as follows:

Oh, those naughty Frogs

The French people are engaging in massive civil disobedience against the Progressive (radical leftist) agenda of President Macron and indeed of the entire government apparatus.  We have a report from an American eyewitness in Paris.

It’s important to note that the majority of protestors are middle aged, these are not college or university students, who make up the usual French protests. This is a grassroots protest. It’s been reported anywhere from 50-80% of the French support the gilets jaunes. This is NOT just about taxes.

The protests began over the new taxes imposed by Macron’s government on fuel. The taxes are viewed as punishing those who use cars and those who can’t afford to buy newer ones. The French already pay heavy taxes on fuel, along with high tolls on highways. Every car in France is required to have 2 high visibility vests (gilets jaunes). The protestors began wearing those vests while protesting.

Along with this, the cost of living is incredibly high while salaries are painfully low, especially in larger cities like Paris. The myth of government-ordered 35 hour work weeks isn’t the reality for most salaried French people. Taxes eat huge chunks of their money and the French are fed up with making the same amount in their salaries as those who don’t work at all and rely on government assistance.

Parts of France are also filled with unassimilated migrants. These migrants get government assistance as well. A large part of the French are sick of paying for migrants when French people are suffering as well. There are areas that have stopped being culturally French and cities the French avoid for holidays because of the migrant problem.

In addition to this, retired people have been lodging their dissatisfaction with their retirement pensions (one woman in a video circulating around French Facebook confronts Macron about having to live off of 500€ a month) and Macron’s reactions have been condescending across the board. He currently has about a 26% approval rating.

All of this started bubbling up a few weeks ago as the protests began with the gilets jaunes in November. The protests last weekend got violent. Statues at the Arc De Triomphe were broken; the Arc was defaced. In Marseille, an 80 year old woman was killed as she was closing her shutters. The police threw a tear gas canister at her window. While outside of larger cities, many police officers and firefighters are taking off their helmets and/or standing in solidarity with the gilets jaunes. There have been reports that they have also refused to shake Macron’s hand and have turned their backs to government officials while serving in official capacities.

On Monday (December 2), there was a protest by the ambulances in Paris. They stood at Concorde with lights flashing and sirens sounding. Truck drivers have also showed their solidarity. They have also driven through Paris with lights flashing to show their dissatisfaction. Roads have been closed down by gilets jaunes and they are blocking access of oil in both ports and at stations. As of posting, over 650 stations are on a list of facing shortages or out of fuel. During yesterday’s news cycle, many truck drivers were seen disrupting broadcasts by honking in solidarity with the gilets jaunes.

On Tuesday (December 3), the French government spoke about their plans for “appeasement” of the gilets jaunes. Their offer was to postpone the start date of 3 taxes (related to fuel). This offer has been scoffed at by the gilets jaunes, who have called it “crumbs” as the taxes haven’t even been implemented yet and the offer does nothing to address the issues regarding cost of living.

Along with this, the French have begun demanding that Macron refuse to sign the UN Migration Act on December 10. This has begun appearing across the Facebook groups and events but has not been widely reported in the French media as far as I can tell.

This has culminated in everything from demands Macron step down to the creation of the 6th Republic. There are protests planned for Saturday across France. The protestors are calling the Paris protests ACT 4. They are quoting from the French National Anthem (“Aux Armes Citoyens”) and planning to protest at Bastille. The medical community is also participating in the protests on Saturday.

TLDR: This is bigger than taxes. These aren’t your usual French protests.

They seem to have learned something from their protests against same sex marriage in 2012. Back then the government announced that they were going to permit same sex marriage and the French took the streets in protest for weeks.  They saw it as a deadly blow to their civilization.  They turned out in protest all over the country with small demonstrations amounting to no more than 100,000 people to really huge ones in Paris involving millions of people.  The government paid no attention to them and jammed it through anyway.

The lesson seems to be this: if all you do is object, even in massive numbers, you will be ignored.  If you want to influence the outcomes you must engage in civil disobedience that really brings things to a standstill and keep them there until you force the change you want.  The French seem to have finally had a belly full.  It seems that Americans aren’t quite there yet, even in Commifornia.  I am sure, however, that the incoming Commicrat elected representatives at all levels of government, will do their best to induce enough rage to bring us into the streets without having to be paid by George Soros.

Meanwhile stay away from crowds.

Le roi est mort (the king is dead)

https://twitter.com/i/status/1069724651327315968

Paris is burning.  What started out as a protest against rising gasoline taxes has transformed into something larger.  When the police and the emergency medical technicians and ambulance drivers get in on the action you know it has to do with something larger than taxes.  Of course the French are already taxed half to death and strapped with smothering regulations.  But now they’ve snapped.

French society is in the midst of a preference cascade.  A preference cascade happens when people realize that their preferences, which they had been keeping to themselves because they thought that they were alone, are in fact generally shared, and that everybody is fed up with the official narrative.  In this case the French are fed up with the entire progressive agenda being foisted on them by the progressive aristocracy. They are sick of hearing how they must sacrifice their current prosperity and hopes for the future on the altars of Global Warming, Diversity, High Taxes, Youth Unemployment and all the other ills that are the poisoned fruit of Progressivism.

Tom Kratman, a science fiction author, has labelled these aristocrats ‘Tranzies’ for transnational elites.  Tranzi, kind of like Nazi, only without the swastikas.  These are people who know better than you ever will, you poor benighted sod, what’s good for you and what’s not, and are going to make sure that you get what you need whether you want it or not.  In fact they know perfectly well that you don’t want it, that’s why they have to ‘nudge’ you with propaganda and increasingly odious regulations to bring you into compliance.

The problem with these noble Tranzies is that they are in a position that enables them to dictate to and foist their do-gooder schemes on the hoi poloi but because of their wealth and position never have to live with the consequences.  Charles Murray in his book Coming Apart noticed this and concluded that this was dividing, and deeply dividing American society and culture and thereby changing it irrevocably.  I doubt very much that most of America has read Murray’s book, but they certainly feel the effects, and know where its coming from, and are not pleased by it.

The European Union is getting ready to pass a law making it illegal and punishable to speak or write against migrants and migration.  That’ll solve the problem of the common folk disliking it for the deleterious effect it has on their lives for sure.  Effects, let it be noted that the Tranzis don’t have to bear, living as they do in gated communities protected by men with guns.  Yes, Tranzies, silence the grumblings, that will make the problem of peasant discontent go away.  And sure, the Tranzis won’t hear about the actual discontent that surrounds them, until the people can’t stand it any more and they force a change.

At this point Macron’s government is done, stick a fork in it.  The French are expressing themselves with their usual Gallic boisterousness – never any shortage of smashing and burning in la belle France!  Merkel in Germany and May in England are on the ropes too.  People have had enough of the transnational progressive agenda.  Increasingly the deplorables recognize that despite the blessings never delivered but promised over and over again they are always left holding the dirty end of the stick.  And they’re sick of it.  The preference cascade has begun in Western Europe.  Will it continue?

All electioneering is about trying to generate a preference cascade.  Donald Trump is the catalyst of a preference cascade here in the US, he would never have been elected otherwise.  The Donks and the Never Trumpers are trying to create a cascade against him personally.  The latter have no agenda other than get rid of Trump.  The latter’s agenda pretty much mirror’s Macron and the Tranzi’s, and will in time garner the same response from Americans as it has from the French.

At some point things will be getting lively.  Stay away from crowds.

Defending the ramparts

Push has come to shove at the border; the ‘caravan’ has arrived at San Ysidro and is calling President Trump’s bluff.   Why San Ysidro?  It is the absolute farthest from the southern Mexican border, extending the march by several hundred miles and thus the time and effort of the marchers.  By ‘effort’ must also be included the very expensive logistical train that has kept them moving across the very inhospitable desert terrain in the north west of Mexico.

The choice of San Ysidro has clearly been mado on the basis not of material consideration but of political considerations.  If they can break through at that point not only are they immediately in the People’s Republic of California, a self proclaimed “Sanctuary State,” but through into a major metropolitan area, San Diego and environs.  It is much easier to get lost and stay lost in a city than in the open desert.  The Radical Left has more allies and to facilitate the logistical train needed to provide material and, more importantly, legal support in California’s metropolitan areas.

Click logo to view their site

Perhaps the Brainiacs  on the Radical Left (Organized by Pueblo Sin Fronteras out of Chicago) that thought this up and directed this agitprop campaign thought they would embarrass Trump and drum up support for open borders.  The chances of embarrassing the President were always slim to nil.  But clearly they had hoped that a loud public outcry would put political pressure on him to cave.  The chances of that are better, and as of this writing he’s got few palatable options.  What has NOT happened is a softening of America’s heart towards the ‘migrants.’

In fact the opposite has happened, Americans increasingly oppose the admission of these would-be invaders.  This is true to such an extent that even prominent Donk politicos have been declaring that they have been supportive of defending the borders all along!  Which is not to say that they are without principles, rather it makes clear that they have only one principle: grab for power by any means necessary.  In this there is no one with more integrity than Felonia van Pantsuit Hillary Clinton herself, who just the other day called for stricter immigration policies.  Oh, wait.  That was directed at the European Union in order to counter the threat of right wing populism.  Ah, never mind.

That this whole ‘migrant caravan’ is a well orchestrated propaganda campaign designed to accomplish several things.  1. Admit more aliens replace the current electorate.  2. Weaken Americas borders and create a larger precedent for the idea that our borders and our sovereignty are illegitimate.  3. Weaken the rule of law and by extension trust in American institutions generally.  4.  Dilute and marginalize American culture.  5.  Undermine the Trump presidency.

If there was one clue above all others that shows the falsity of the whole thing it is this: when the ‘migrants’ were on the point of mixing it up with Americans defending the border and there was some chance of people getting hurt, they pushed women and children to the front.  Yet when a few got past the border fence they were all male.  This was not an act of cowardice, this is a well known tactic designed to create the optics that America is brutal and cowardly, not the leftist agitators themselves.

The President’s bluff has been called.  The time for negotiations is over.  Now its time to raise, call or fold.  Because raise could end up being so horrific the chances of folding are, in my opinion, greater than not.  Of course the long term consequences of folding would be far, far worse the cost of the raise would be less in the long term.

Napoleon understood that the sooner you take decisive action the sooner and more favorably will the crisis be resolved; half measures avail nothing good.  These migrants are nothing more nor less than an invading army.  They have been organized and supplied by powers inimical to America and our Constitution, have marched on our borders with the stated intent of crossing them in clear and direct violation of our laws and our sovereignty and have done so plainly under foreign flags and while expressing the utmost contempt for us.

So far only non lethal means have been used to deter these invaders, tear gas and rubber bullets.  There are more non lethal technology in our arsenal, such as the tear gas and pepper spray used by the Obama Administration.  In addition we have sonic and microwave crowd control tech that is quite effective.  But ultimately we have an Army which is quite capable of crowd control with and without extreme prejudice, which exists precisely to defend the nation.

If they don’t want their heads blown off they should keep their heads on the other side of the wall.

The Deceptocrats

If you didn’t know it before you will in just a bit that the only way the Demoncrats can advance their agenda is by hitching their star to the Father of Lies.  Truth does not serve them, nor they it.  If the general population knew the truth we’d be back to the days of tar, feathers, and riding on rails.  Here goes.  First we have Candace Owens.

She is PISSED, so language warning!

Next we have Donald Trump’s new best friend, Nancy Pelosi.

By the way, do share.

UN agenda for national destruction

You know you can always trust the lunatics at Turtle Bay to be on the lookout for anything that will erode national sovereignty and the destruction of America (while advancing and cementing their own sinecures).  You can further bet your bottom dollar that the Devilcrats will be panting to sign up.  Here’s the latest evil the Dark Temple is pressing on us.
